One of the saddest days I’ve witnessed in 40 years. He was our father. Today, we mourn His Highness Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani, the architect of modern Qatar and a leader whose vision transformed the country’s economy, education, culture, infrastructure and global standing. His legacy lives on in the Qatar we know today and in the opportunities he created for generations to come. May Allah have mercy on him, forgive him, grant him the highest ranks of Jannat Al-Firdaws, and give strength to His Highness the Amir, the Al Thani family and the people of Qatar. I had the honour of meeting His Highness three times: at the opening of Carnegie Mellon University in Qatar, at my graduation, and in 2012 at the Amiri Diwan as a scholarship student. These are memories I will always cherish.
